Days 5-8

I realize that I have missed quite a bit of the time for this challenge. I have been in Salt Lake for the weekend and haven't had access to my laptop. I know this is going to be long, but here are days 5-8.

Day 5: A song you hear when shopping

I don't really pay attention to the music that is playing when I am wandering through a store. I assume that it is all the new stuff that is being played on the radio, most of which I don't care for. This one, however, is a very cute song that I actually enjoy. :)

Day 6: A song that you can't listen to just once

There were way too many to choose from in this area, so I chose one that may not be too widespread. 'Fireworks' irritates me after too many times hearing it, but this version is quite tolerable. Thank you BYU for this!!!

Day 7: A song that breaks your heart with the first few notes

I am not sure if this is the best version of this song, but whenever I hear it during the Christmas season, I have to do something else or I start to cry. I think of all the families that are missing a person during the season because of the wars that we are involved in. I know that we, as Americans, are so blessed to have soldiers that are willing to fight for all of us even though they may be portrayed as villains by some.

Day 8: Grandmother
I don't know an easier way to have this song, but this is a song that I remember singing for my Great-Grandma Brucks' funeral with my mom and aunt. I think of her everytime I hear it.

Day 4 of the challenge.

Today's weather is quite nasty - wind and cold! Blech! I wish Idaho would break up with Winter and start dating Summer.
On that note, on to day 4 of the song challenge. Today's song is my favorite break up song. I had to think about this one, and finally came up with one that I always think about. =)

Hopefully, everyone will recognize this song. For those who don't, the title of this song is "I'll Pray for You." What a great title. Who wants to pray for their ex after breaking up? At least, pray for good things to happen to them...

Day 3 of the Challenge

Today is a nice, sunny day here in the Burg... Wonder how long it will last (as you never know with Idaho). :-)
Anyhoo, today's theme of the challenge is a song from your favorite movie. I don't have one in particular that I identify as my favorite... So I, again, have multiple songs that fit into this category.

1. Labyrinth

Yes, I know it is a ridiculously cheesy movie from the 80's, but I really like this song, and for a while (as my family will confirm) I was a little obsessed with it. I still can't figure out whether Jareth is charming or pure evil...

2. The Swan Princess

I know this isn't the original video from the song, but I enjoy these fan vids that combine music from the Swan Princess and clips from Harry Potter.

Day 2 of the Challenge

Okay, so today's challenge is my favorite Love song. There are so many love songs to choose from, but I guess  I have two that are tied for my favorites. I have a hard time choosing between favorites, so here they are:

Option 1:
Here is the official YouTube link, but I had to do it this way since I couldn't find it in the search...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTvgnYGu9bg
Anyways... For those who don't recognize this, let me give you a hint: it is in Eclipse, and the artist's name is Muse. Know it now? Here is the title: Neutron Star Collision.
I fell in love with Muse through the Twilight Saga movies. I adore this song in particular. Whether it is a love song or not, I feel it is. The message is about enduring love.

Option 2:

Does anyone recognize this one? It is called "I Do" by Jon Schmidt. It follows the more traditional, soft and slow beat of a love song. I love the message conveyed in this particular song, and the tenderness behind it.

What do you think?

Beginning of a Song Challenge

To preface the next 30 posts, there have been several 30 day challenges going around facebook. These have included pictures, videos, or random facts about yourself that you are supposed to post daily. I started the 30 day photo challenge, but I didn't get very far. I also didn't put my heart into the challenge because I really didn't care that much. This time, there is a bit more thought that needs to go into it... so, here we begin:

1. Favorite Cover of a Song (supposed to look up on YouTube):
"Why Don't We Just Dance" by Josh Turner

I think this version is great! He has real potential and sounds pretty darn close to the original:

I discovered this song by listening to 105.5 The Hawk (a local young country station that is totally AMAZING!!) The message is really cute and the beat is uplifting. It makes me very happy and I smile every time I hear/sing it :)

Do You Remember

I was looking over some quizzes on FB and started to have some flashbacks to childhood. I am sure all of us have things that we remember from childhood and wish were still around. Some of these are still around, but not in the form I remember.....

1. Furby
Do you remember these creepy creations? I do. My mother still has one in the basement, but she lets the nieces and nephews play with it (without batteries, of course).

2. Giga Pets
I miss these little gadgets. My first one came when I was really little. It was a cat and I loved it. According to my parents, I came into the kitchen one morning with blood-shot eyes and handed them the giga pet. Apparently, I stayed up all night taking care of my kitty, like a good little mommy. Now these are called Tomagatchis. I have 2.

3. Scrunchies!
I haven't seen one of these for a long time, or heard someone call these obnoxious ponytail holders "scrunchies" for a long time!
4. Beanie Babies!
I still have my beanie babies and love them! I have the cougar, the white unicorn, and a couple of the puppies. Who didn't love them? :)
4. My Little Pony
These were some of the toys that I remember the most. I used to play with them in the tub, which eventually turned them black inside, but I didn't care. They were awesome!

5. Lisa Frank
What girl who grew up in the 90s didn't want Lisa Frank folders, journals, paper, stickers, etc.? I still think they are pretty cool looking!

6. Pokemon Cards
The cutsey little mutant animals with freaky powers. Need I say more? I don't know whether this is sad or not, but I still have a container of them. The show was one of the only Anime shows I actually enjoyed.

7. Yugioh! Cards
Pretty much the same as Pokemon, but with monsters instead of animals. The show was pretty legit too! I also have some of these cards still.
8. Last, but not least.... POWER RANGERS (the original)!
When I was little, my two best buds on the farm (both boys) and I would pretend we were part of the Power Ranger group. I was always the Pink one, of course, while my friends were (I think) Red and Yellow. I don't remember why of all things I remember this memory, but I have a fondness for the original Power Rangers.

I have never had a blog before, so I don't quite know what to say...
I guess I will start with my favorite things.
1. Family
My family has always been there for me and helped me to get where I am today. I owe everything to my family!

2. Wonderful Friends/Roommates
I don't know where I would be without my friends! Family is wonderful, but friends have become an extension of my family that help me when and where my family cannot.

3. Books
Where would society be without books? Books have been the inspiration for movies, plays, music, major inventions, and the creation of many a nation, like the US. There are myriad books to choose from covering a variety of subjects and genres. There is something for everyone, regardless of age, sex, race, citizenship, etc. Within books, one can find an escape from the everyday mundane life and travel to Hogwarts, Narnia, Paris, Egypt, Spain, and anywhere else one desires to go.

4. School
The fondation for all greatness. Everyone who has ever done something great has been educated to some degree, whether it be a Ph.D., a M.D., or maybe not any more than 3rd grade. There was still a level of education. As a future teacher, I see the need for better education and educators to help shape/guide the minds of the future.

5. Music
Not a day has passed when I am not moved/influenced by some kind of music, for good or for bad. Classical/piano music has a special place in my heart, as I am a piano player (haven't played for quite some time, however). Piano music is able to touch me in ways that other methods cannot. I also love Country music, since I grew up in the heart of potato farm central. Although I didn't live there for too long, I still have fond memories of riding next to my dad in a giant John Deer tractor for hours on end and sharing lunch out of a round, flat Tupperware container. :-)

6. Movies
I have a wide variety of movies that I enjoy. From Disney classics to horror/thriller movies like Paranormal Activity or the Haunting in Connecticut, I can find something to enjoy in every collection of movies. I enjoy the classics like The Princess Bride, Arsenic and Old Lace, Fiddler on the Roof, etc. and newer movies like Hop, Rio, Harry Potter, etc.
